Shauna's New Kitten - 2001

Here are a couple of pictures of Shauna's new kitten--her birthday present from her best friend, Melanie. The kitten is female and her name is Tica (nickname for a female Costa Rican). Tica has no fear and loves to be around people. Our other two cats are not too happy about having a rambunctious kitten in the house, but they'll just have to deal with it!

Tica loves to climb anything!

Shauna's Graduation from Stanford University--2000

Shauna graduated from Stanford University on June 11, 2000. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Latin American Studies with departmental honors, plus a B.A. in Spanish.

Graduation was held at Stanford Stadium. Stanford's undergraduates enter the stadium in the traditional "Wacky Walk"--they wear all sorts of "interesting" attire with their caps and gowns. This year there were two Chinese dragons, two Stanford Trees, assorted unusual caps, streamers, balloons, and many carrying signs.

Costa Rica Pictures--1998

In 1998, Shauna completed a semester at the Universidad Nacional in Heredia, Costa Rica and then traveled for a month. She was in Costa Rica almost six months! These were the first pictures she sent home and her original captions.

Monteverde

A white-faced something or other (I can't remember the name!) in Monteverde. At first there was this one. Then 5 minutes later there were at least 50!

A beautiful scene in Montverde. Postcard perfect if I do say so myself!
Me in the rainforest in Monteverde...
Swingin' from the trees...the Canopy Tour in Monteverde where I watched monkeys in a cloud forest as I balayed (sp?) on wires from tree to tree.

A beautiful scene from Bocas del Toro
Four bathing beauties in a deserted lagoon in the old ranch of Manual Noriega in Bocas del Toro, Panama. What paradise!
Una catarrata (waterfall) in the Sarapiqui River. This was before we went white water rafting.
Tortuguero
On our way to Tortuguero, we traveled on Rio San Juan, which is between Nicaragua and Costa Rica. We had to go through
the border partol and get stamped. Just keep fillin' that passport!
View from our boat tour in Tortuguero.
A cayman crocodile. Close up shot, huh?! Good thing we were in the boat!
Another picture perfect scene, this time in Tortuguero.
Carnaval
and the Indigenous Cultural Exposition
Me, unshowered, unchanged, and without sleep outside the hotel where we left our stuff during Carnaval
Artesania from the indigenous cultural show. Mom would love to use these for her baskets, I'm sure!
